Waiting to experience the magic of DTS:X? If you have a little something from Yamaha, the wait may be over very soon.
Yamaha just announced a series of spring firmware updates that will add DTS:X support into a few select products. That lineup will include Aventage AV receivers, an AV processor, and a soundbar.
DTS:X uses object-oriented encoding to create a truly three-dimensional soundfield. That way, you can really experience those sky-high explosions, planes flying overhead, rainstorms, buildings collapsing, and so much more.
According to Yamaha, the CX-A5100 AV processor and the RX-A3050, RX-A2050, and RX-A1050 AV receivers will all get the update starting in early March. All of the products currently support Dolby Atmos, another object-based surround format.
The Aventage CX-A5100 AV preamp is part of the Yamaha MusicCast family, so it can stream all sorts of audio selections over WiFi. It also has Bluetooth (including an output option), eight HDMI inputs, two HDMI outputs, and support for both high-resolution audio and 4K video with HDCP 2.2.
Both the RX-A3050 and the RX-A2050 are 9.2-channel receivers. The RX-A3050 can be expanded up to 11.2 channels, using an external 2-channel amp. It also features Yamaha’s Cinema DSP HD3 technology, an ESS Technology 192kHz/32-bit SABRE32 Ultra DAC for the seven main channels, and the SABRE Premier Audio DAC for presence channels. The RX-A2050 packs in two of the ESS Technology SABRE Premier Audio DACs, while the RX-A1050 has one.
An update to the YSP-5600 MusicCast soundbar will follow sometime in late April. This product was actually the first Dolby Atmos-capable soundbar announced. The product uses Digital Sound Projector technology to create an experience similar to what you’d get with a 7.1.2-channel system. It actually recreates the placement of the various speakers in a 3D-style setup by reflecting sound off of the walls and ceiling, bouncing it back into the listener’s position.
Yamaha is currently selling the Aventage CX-A5100 AV preamp, with an MSRP of $2,499.95. The RX-A3050, RX-A2050, and RX-A1050 AV receivers are also out now, priced at $1,999.95, $1,599.95, and $1,199.95, respectively. The YSP-5600 MusicCast soundbar is available now as well, priced at $1,599.95.
