A/V and music review site, ecoustics recently announced the promotion of veteran A/V journalist Ian White as the publication’s new Editor in Chief. As part of the new role, Ian will oversee the site’s expansion into social media and a new focus on vinyl, vintage audio/video gear and affordable entry-level HiFi systems.
The site saw its start in 1999 and has been delivering news, advice and reviews across a wide spectrum of consumer electronics categories ever since. According to the site’s founder and CEO, Brian Mitchell, ecoustics is shifting gears and becoming more focused on the next generation of A/V enthusiasts.
“2020 gave us an opportunity to take a step back and look at the changing landscape in the world of consumer A/V media. With traffic growing by almost 27% each quarter, we realized that we needed to make some strategic changes to bolster the quality of our original content, improve the way we engage with the next generation of enthusiasts who have migrated to podcasts, Instagram, and YouTube, and develop a younger core group of contributors who have already developed significant social media communities that are interested in vinyl, used and vintage high-end audio components, personal audio, and more affordable high-end audio systems.

“We have already expanded our roster of editorial staff with 3 established Instagram influencers covering vinyl, used and vintage audio, and budget hi-fi – expanding our social media reach on the platform to almost 52,000 followers,” said Mitchell.
The publication will continue (and expand) its written coverage of industry news and A/V gear reviews, but will also expand into podcasts, short form videos and collaborations with other channels and related sites.
Ecoustics also announced the addition of Eric Pye to the writers’ roster. Also known as as @audioloveyyc on Instagram, Pye has developed one of the fastest growing used high-end and vintage audio communities on the platform with over 17,000 followers. Through his new column on ecoustics, reviews of both hardware and vinyl, and contributions to ecoustics’ new podcast, “Between Your Ears,” Eric will be tasked with leading ecoustics’ charge into this neglected segment of the market.

“We are also very excited to announce the transition of Sr. Contributing Editor, Ian White, to the role of Editor in Chief. With more than 20 years of consumer A/V media experience, including roles at Gear Patrol, Digital Trends, SoundStage, Big Picture Big Sound, and Enjoy the Music, Ian brings decades of experience to the position. With more than 25 years of media content production experience in the personal finance, science, and engineering categories, White brings both a technical production background and understanding of the changing media landscape that will only help us grow,” announced Mitchell.
“There is a new generation of music listeners out there who really don’t know what to buy,” Mitchell continued. “Our goal is to educate, entertain, and convert this passionate group of people into audio and video enthusiasts. We are already moving forward with new media partnerships that will be announced in the coming weeks and plan on creating new opportunities for manufacturers looking to connect with a new audience.”
Ecoustics has been covering HiFi, home theater, and personal audio for over 20 years and is one of the most respected consumer A/V sites in the world. The independently owned website provides daily news updates, product reviews, features, buying guides, show reports, and critical buying advice for aspiring audiophiles and video enthusiasts. The website also provides a comprehensive database of product reviews from hundreds of the world’s leading enthusiast and consumer electronics publications. The magazine is heading into 2021 with an expanded list of A/V contributors, music reviewers, and strategic influencer partnerships to extend the reach of the publication to a new generation of listeners and movie fans across the globe.
Having partnered with Brian and ecoustics in the past, and having worked closely with Ian when he wrote for Big Picture Big Sound, we think there’s a real opportunity for growth here and wish the ecoustics team the best of luck moving forward.
