The G10 series TVs feature 40,000:1 Native Contrast (“2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast”) and offer Panasonic’s VIERACast for access to YouTube, Picasa, and Amazon Video-on-Demand without the need for a computer hooked up to your TV. The 42-inch S1 series TV offers 30,000:! native contrast and does not include VIERACast, but when combined with the Blu-ray player you don’t need it (because VIERACast is also in the Blu-ray player!).
That Blu-ray Player is Panasonic’s DMP-BD60, a Big Picture Big Sound favorite. We reviewed its big brother the DMP-BD80 and found it offered excellent video and audio performance. The BD60 is virtually identical in performance except it lacks multi-channel analog outputs. The BD60 can connect to your TV and/or surround sound system using HDMI or component video and fiberoptic digital audio. It is BD-Live ready (just needs an inexpensive SD card) and features excellent DVD upconversion with 1080p/24 output from standard DVDs as well as outstanding Blu-ray audio and video performance.
