Leading Web Site Unveils Its Picks for Best Consumer Electronics Gear of the Year
New York, NY – December 30, 2010 – It’s awards season and the festivities are spreading to the crew at Big Picture Big Sound. For the first time in the publication’s six-year history, the site’s staff has made it their mission to uncover the best electronics gear to help consumers enjoy music and movies at home and on the go. They’ve compared notes, debated the merits of various components over coffee and Cabernet, and selected the cream of the crop in HDTV, media playback and home theater equipment. These best-in-class components are being awarded the first-ever BIGGIE Awards for excellence in consumer electronics.
“We see a great deal of consumer electronics gear come through the BPBS labs, selecting only the most compelling products for a detailed review on the site. From that gear, we’ve picked the best of the best, in terms of performance and usability,” says Chris Boylan, Big Picture Big Sound’s editor-in-chief and co-founder. “We decided it was time to recognize those manufacturers who have gotten it right, delivering exceptional performance, thoughtful ergonomics, tremendous value, a compelling user experience, or a combination of all of the above. The BIGGIE Award is how we’re showing this recognition.”

The BIGGIE Awards have been broken down into four categories: media playback devices, displays (including flat-panel HDTVs and projectors), audio components and accessories. The accessories category is broad-reaching, including remote controls, headphones, network adapters, and other equipment that helps to enrich or complete the user’s media enjoyment experience. Only gear released or reviewed in 2010 was eligible for this year’s awards. Detailed reviews for most of these components are available on Big Picture Big Sound’s web site: www.bigpicturebigsound.com.
“We believe that an investment in any of these components is money well spent in your quest for home entertainment nirvana,” says Boylan. “As for the name of the award, well, we’re all about Big Picture and Big Sound so how could we call it anything else?”
