Reindeer Games Review
John Frankenheimer’s by-the-numbers thriller sacrifices character and believability for ludicrious plot twists.

Stunning state-of-the-art special effects do nothing to enhance this brainless dragon tale set in modern day England.
‘Rush Hour’ Director Brett Ratner takes on the unenviable task of helming the first of Thomas Harris’ Hannibal Lecter series. There are some fine moments, but the competent cast, led by the always reliable Anthony Hopkins, can’t propel this story out of the shadow of ‘Silence of the Lambs’.
Giving a four-star performance in a three-star movie, Jamie Foxx embodies Ray Charles to a degree that should propel him to Oscar status. As for the movie: what it lacks in subtlety it makes up for in non-stop musical hits and a fine supporting cast.
Standard, styleless revenge fantasy takes a Marvel Comics character who is neither super nor a hero and strands him in a by-the-numbers violence-begets-violence plot against another one of those maniacal John Travolta villains.
Adam Sandler gives a genuine, heartfelt performance in writer-director P.T. Anderson’s amusing but pointlessly peculiar romantic comedy.
Routine, at times tedious, hostage thriller which fails to generate any tension or star chemistry.
Hayao Miyazaki’s eco-friendly animated fable about animal gods and those damn humans bent on destroying the environment is made bearable by some trademark anime limb-severing violence. Whatever you do, skip the laughable English re-dub.
Director-star Ed Harris brings painter Jackson Pollock to vivid life in an intense labor-of-love which is full of wonderful and occasionally repetitive moments.
Director Sean Penn’s trademark self-indulgence overwhelms this dark, cynical meditation on aging and obsession, which features a welcomed vulnerable performance by Jack Nicholson.
