Bill Paxton’s directorial debut is a competently creepy paranormal thriller no doubt inspired by one too many ‘X-files’ episodes. And like the worst of that series, the film falls into the trap of explaining and withholding the wrong information for the sake of thrills.

Julianne Moore delivers a far better performance than is deserved by this frustratingly ridiculous child abduction thriller which plays like a longer but less-satisfying “X-files” episode.

Interesting take on the inspiration for J.M. Barrie’s “Peter Pan” features sturdy performances from Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet and newcomer Freddie Highmore, but the storytelling is too lazy to conjure up any much-needed magic.

Once again, the team at Pixar proves that the freshest, most entertaining films coming out of Hollywood today are the animated kind. Though geared a little more towards the kids than usual, the aquatic visuals are stunning and Albert Brooks and Ellen DeGeneres give performances far exceeding anything they’ve done in the flesh.
